Data Destruction is Important
Data destruction is a technology that seeks to completely destroy all electronic data on the equipment’s data storage device, using data scrubbing.
Most people are not aware that copiers contain a data storage device. An electronic copy of every page scanned or copied using a photocopier is saved to an internal drive. These images can be retrieved with little effort. Copiers and scanners represent one of the fastest growing threats to personal data security. Be sure to dispose of your used scanning and copying equipment in a way that ensures your personal and business information will not fall into the wrong hands.
Federal and most state laws require health care facilities, financial institutions as well as education and government agencies to provide proof that data destruction was done correctly. While companies take into account the safe destruction of computer hard drive data most of them forget about the data stored on their office copier. When TBC purchases or recycles your used copy machine you can request our data destruction service so your information will not fall into the wrong hands.
Data Destruction
Level 1: We will erase the copiers data storage devices by formating the storage device. This method does not completely delete the information nor does it remove from the equipment’s storage. However, it will make it more difficult for someone to retrieve the data stored in the equipment.
- When a factory reset is done this procedure does exactly what it implies- the copier is reset to the original factory format when the copier first was sold. While this simple procedure is quite encompassing and satisfies 90 percent of our customer base, we also provide a level 2 pay-for-fee service that includes data scrubbing. This process is very intense and adheres to the strict guidelines of the Department of Defense (DOD) and HIPPA.
Level 2: We will erase the data storage device using our software. This cleaning method meets the Department of Defense (DOD) standard crusher and then shredded in a certified hard disk destroyer. It is highly recommended if the equipment contains sensitive data such as medical and/or financial records, IRS/tax information, or social security numbers and credit card information.
Once the data is destroyed, we will send you a certified verification and data destruction log for your records.
